1. The Mara River Crossing That Lasted Four Hours

In August, Buhaya guide Joseph Mwangi positioned his guests on the northern bank of the Mara River just as a massive herd of wildebeest began their crossing. What followed was four hours of continuous drama — herds surging into the water, crocodiles attacking, animals scrambling up the opposite bank. Joseph later said it was the largest single crossing he had witnessed in fifteen years of guiding.

2. A Leopard Mother and Two Cubs in Seronera

In March, Buhaya guest Sarah from London had a moment that every safari traveller dreams of. A female leopard emerged from the tall grass near the Seronera River with two tiny cubs. The family settled in a sausage tree just fifteen metres from the Buhaya vehicle. For two hours, the cubs played while their mother watched with calm, golden eyes. Sarah described it as "the most beautiful thing I have ever seen."

3. Calving Season: 8,000 Wildebeest Born in One Day

In February, Buhaya guide Neema Kileo took a family of four to the Ndutu plains during peak calving season. They watched in amazement as wildebeest calves stood on wobbly legs for the first time while their mothers licked them clean. Neema estimated they witnessed over 200 births in a single morning. The children in the family were mesmerised.

4. The Ngorongoro Crater at Sunrise

There is nothing quite like the first view of the Ngorongoro Crater at dawn. In June, Buhaya guest David from New York stood at the crater rim as the sun rose over the eastern wall, illuminating the floor below. A herd of elephants moved through the morning mist like ancient ghosts. David later told us it was the moment he understood why people travel across the world for safaris.

5. A Walking Safari Encounter with Elephants in Nyerere

In October, a group of Buhaya guests on a walking safari in Nyerere National Park came face to face with a herd of elephants at a river crossing. Their Buhaya guide, Emmanuel, read the situation perfectly — he directed the group to stand still and let the elephants decide their own path. The herd passed within ten metres, the matriarch pausing to look directly at the group before leading her family across. The guests described it as the most adrenaline-filled moment of their lives.

6. Night Drive: Pangolin Sighting in Tarangire

Pangolins are among the most elusive creatures in Africa. In September, Buhaya guest James from Canada saw one during a night drive in Tarangire. The pangolin crossed the road directly in front of the vehicle, its scales clicking softly against the tarmac. Buhaya guide Emmanuel jumped out (at a safe distance) and the group watched in silence as this ancient, scaled mammal disappeared into the bush. James later said it was the highlight of his entire three-week Africa trip.

7. The Birthday Surprise in the Serengeti

In May, Buhaya arranged a surprise birthday celebration for guest Maria from Brazil. During a morning game drive, the Buhaya vehicle pulled up to a clearing where the camp team had set up a table with a cake, champagne, and a banner reading "Happy Birthday, Maria." A herd of giraffes watched from the tree line. Maria cried. Her husband later told us it was the best birthday either of them had ever experienced.

8. Kilimanjaro Summit at Sunrise

In March, Buhaya guide Neema led a group of four climbers to the summit of Kilimanjaro. They reached Uhuru Peak (5,895m) just as the sun rose over the Mawenzi Peak, painting the ice fields in shades of gold and pink. One climber, Thomas from Germany, had trained for two years for this moment. He stood at the summit in tears. The Buhaya team sang the Tanzanian national song to celebrate.

9. Flamingo Ballet at Lake Manyara

In November, Buhaya guest Chen from China witnessed a spectacle at Lake Manyara that defied description. Thousands of lesser flamingos took flight simultaneously from the alkaline lake, creating a swirling pink cloud that turned the sky rose-coloured. Buhaya guide Joseph captured the moment on video, and it has since been shared over 10,000 times on social media. Chen described it as "nature's most perfect performance."

10: The Return Guest Who Brought Their Whole Family

In December, Buhaya welcomed back a guest who had first travelled with us in 2019. This time, she brought her parents, her sister, and her two children — six people spanning three generations. Buhaya guide Joseph designed an itinerary that balanced game drives with cultural visits, gentle walks, and plenty of rest time. At the end of the trip, the grandmother told Joseph: "I have seen the world, and this is the best thing I have ever done."
