Africa's largest wildlife sanctuary
Nyerere National Park (Selous)
Overview
Formerly part of the Selous Game Reserve, Nyerere National Park is the largest protected area in Africa and one of the last true wilderness safaris. The Rufiji River is its spine: sunset boat safaris pass hippo pods and crocodiles, while game drives cross wetlands, grasslands and acacia woodland in search of elephant, lion, buffalo, giraffe and the endangered African wild dog. Reached by flight or by ferry and road from Zanzibar.
